Description When executing the IOF MPI file, the GUMUNPCK program gets return code 8 and the install fails.
 
Background The IOF MPI (Mainframe Product Install) file is a Rexx exec with the product data sets included in TERSE format as comments. By default, the GIMUNPCK program is used to convert the terse format data sets to untersed data sets.

Recent IBM PTFs UO00284, UO00285, UO00286 and UO00287 introduced a problem in GIMUNPCK. It may produce error messages similar to the ones shown below:

Solution IBM has a new APAR IO03992 to address the problems created by the PTFs listed above. The PTFs for this APAR solves the problem.


 

Solution The TRSMAIN program can also be used to unterse the IOF data sets. TRSMAIN can be downloaded from several IBM web sites and installed into a system linklist data set. Use Google to find one of the download web sites.

To use TRSMAIN instead of the default GIMUNPCK, specify the parm UNTERSE(TRSMAIN) when executing the MPI file as shown below. 

   ex 'iof.ioft8a0.mpi'  'unterse(trsmain)'
