Description Can you sort the Job List Menu on multiple fields?

Answer Yes, the Job List Menu, and any other IOF list menu can be sorted on multiple fields. See the June 2004 Newsletter for details of the new sort facilities.

Background There are two ways to sort the Job List Menu and other "list" type menus in IOF.
  • Specify a SORT field on the Option Menu.
  • Issue the SORT command after the menu is displayed.
Specifying a SORT field on the Option Menu is far more efficient than sorting an existing list with the SORT command. The SORT command is more flexible however.

The SORT command has an optional "direction" parm of "A" (ascending) and "D" (descending). SORT fields have an implied direction with no way to change to the opposite direction. One to four fields can be specified on the SORT command along with the direction parameter. For example:

SORT DATETIME D JOBNAME A

ANSWER Enterins "SORT" with no parameters causes a menu of the most common sorts to be displayed. Simply entering the menu number causes that sort to be selected.
