IOF Release 7G

Topics

Introduction

Release 7G of the Interactive Output Facility (IOF) program product provides support for z/OS 1.2. 7G also runs with any version of OS/390.

Several additional enhancements are also included in 7G. The MPI self contained packaging has also been improved to make installation quicker and easier.

z/OS 1.2 Support

z/OS 1.2 supports six digit job numbers. All IOF panels that display the JOBID field were modified to display the full 7 character (six digit) job number. The DEST field was reduced in size from 18 characters to 17 characters to make room for the expanded JOBID field with minimal change to IOF panels. An example 7G Job List Menu is shown below.

------------------------------ IOF Job List Menu -------------( 89 )-----------

Release 7G supports spool data sets with relative MTTR pointers. If this JES2 option is chosen, 7G can read and display the spool data.

TS Command

The new TS command is an improved TSO command that can be entered from any IOF panel. TS with no parms displays a popup window that allows entering very long TSO commands.

Enter a TSO command below and press ENTER:

Output from TSO commands is presented at the top of the screen when the TS command is used.

SR Command

The new SR command (Systems Requests) displays all WTORs and action messages in a table. Messages can be cleared and WTORs can be replied to directly from the input area on the table. Several formats are available by scrolling right or left. An example is shown below.

Replies with a maximum length of 7 characters can be entered directly on the panel. The '/' line command causes the full message to be displayed and allows entry of long WTOR replies.

Automatic Console Scrolling

The new CNSCROLL command controls automatic console scrolling. Console scrolling status is saved in the user's profile. This allows each user to define their preference for console scrolling.

CNSCROLL ON causes the IOF Extended Console to be automatically scrolled to the bottom when a new command is entered so that the new command output is displayed at the top of the screen. Users can still scroll up to see previous console commands and command output.

CNSCROLL OFF disables automatic console scrolling.

SNAP Enhancements

The IOF SNAP process was enhanced to make it more efficient. IOF clists that copy spool data utilize the new facilities. SLAMMEMO, SLAMARCH and IOFWTR are examples of clists that will run faster because of the new facilities.

IOFADDC and IOFREMC Multiple Data Set Support

The IOFADDC and IOFREMC execs can now concatenate or unconcatenate multiple data sets.

IOFADDC DDNAME (DSN1 DSN2.....) /HEAD/TAIL/DUPLICATES/NL

IOFREMC DDNAME DA(DSN1 DSN2 ...)

IOFADDC is used by many sites in the IOF initialization clist/exec. It is sometimes used multiple times for the same DDNAME to concatenate multiple data sets. Specifying multiple DSNAMEs on a single invocation of IOFADDC and IOFREMC is much more efficient than invoking the commands multiple times.

Beta Version Availability

Beta testing for IOF 7G has been closed. IOF 7G was officially released on November 6, 2001.
