Common Technical Question
Question R04
Previous Next
Description How do I determine when my IOF expiration password will expire?

Answer You can determine the date your current IOF expiration date patch will expire by entering "DVAR EXPRDATE" from any IOF panel. The date associated with the expiration date patch currently in use will be displayed.

Answer Release 7J provides a utility that can be run periodically in batch TSO to warn that IOF will soon expire. JCL to run this utility is in the M45DATCK job in the IOF INSTALL library. The number of days warning, and userid(s) to be notified of problems are input parms to the utility. This utility is also available in release 8A.

Information IOF maintains a large number of variables that control individual IOF sessions. These variables describe the current environment, system, user and session. The value of these variables can be useful in diagnosing IOF problems.

Enter the "DVAR" command from any IOF panel to display a menu of IOF variable categories like the one shown below.

---------- Display of Current Variable Values ---------
COMMAND ===>

1 SESSION environment attributes 2 SESSION environment attributes 2 3 SESSION environment attributes 3 4 SYSTEM environment attributes 5 JES2 Information 6 GROUP attributes defined for your IOF Group 7 GROUP attributes defined for your IOF Group 2 8 Misc attributes 9 Misc attributes 2 10 JAR Job Archival and Retrieval Attributes 11 SLAM System Log Access Management Attributes 12 RACF Security System Attributes 13 APPC Servers and Alias Names Listing 14 Sysids (and alias) with Printers Attached 15 Logical Console Usage Attributes 16 Logical Console Initial Commands

17 Print all variable values

Press the "ENTER" key repeatedly to see each set of variables. Or enter a menu number in the COMMAND area to display that specific list of variables.

The expiration date is displayed when the first set of SESSION variables is selected.

Information Beginning with IOF Release 7J, a new utility exists to warn that IOF will soon expire. The JCL to run this utility is generated in the new M45DATCK job in the IOF INSTALL library. See the June 2004 Newsletter for more information about running this password utility, or browse the M45DATCK job in the INSTALL library. Note that this job does not exist in releases of IOF prior to release 7J.
